Nuts for you?

Ellen says: Nuts are high in fat, and fat contributes to heart disease. Right? Well, usually. Yet a study of thirty thousand Seventh Day Adventists indicated that people who ate nuts at least five times a week had half as many heart attacks as those who ate nuts less than once a week.

What's even more interesting is that this significant reduction occured in people who were already at low risk for heart disease because of their unhealthy eating habits.

Researchers speculate that the fatty acid profile nuts may favorably alter blood lipid levels. What were the most common nuts eaten? Peanuts, almonds, and walnuts-all of which are high in monounsaturated fat, loe in saturated fat, and high in fiber. Just be sure the nuts you choose are salt free, and, as with all foods, moderation is the key. Don't forget, nuts are very high in calories.
