holidays are a great time

Ellen Says: A holiday is a day designated as having special significance for which individuals, a government, or a religious group have deemed that observation is warranted. Examples of types of holidays include:

* Official (more common) or unofficial observances of religious, national, or cultural significance, often accompanied by celebrations or festivities.
* A general leave of absence or vacation from a regular occupation for rest or recreation

A holiday can also refer to a specific trip or journey for the purposes of recreation or tourism. People often take a vacation during specific holiday observances, or for specific festivals or celebrations. Vacations or holidays are often spent with friends or family.

A person may take a longer break from work, such as a sabbatical, gap year, or career break.

Gbex says: The word "holiday" comes from the Old English word hāligdæg. The word originally referred only to special religious days. In modern use, it means any special day of rest or relaxation, as opposed to normal days off work or school. The word derived from the notion of "Holy Day", and gradually evolved to its current form.

In the United Kingdom, vacation once specifically referred to the long summer break taken by the law courts and, later, universities—a custom introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy where it facilitated the grape harvest. In the past, many upper-class families moved to a summer home for part of the year, leaving their usual family home vacant.

Lawrence says: Vacation, in English-speaking North America, describes recreational travel, such as a short pleasure trip, or a journey abroad. People in Commonwealth countries also use the phrase, going on leave or going on holiday.

Canadians often use vacation and holiday interchangeably referring to a trip away from home or time off work. In Australia, the term can refer to a vacation or a public holiday.

In most of the English-speaking world, holiday may refer to a day set aside by a nation or culture (in some cases, multiple nations and cultures) for commemoration, celebration, or other observance. Schools and businesses often close for holidays.

greeting cards

Ellen Says: Do you know that a greeting card is an illustrated, folded card featuring an expression of friendship or other sentiment.

Although greeting cards are usually given on special occasions, such as birthdays, Christmas or other holidays, they are also sent to convey thanks or express other feeling. Greeting cards, usually packaged with an envelope, come in a variety of styles.

There are both mass-produced as well as handmade versions that are distributed by hundreds of companies large and small. While typically inexpensive, more elaborate cards with die-cuts or glued-on decorations may be more expensive.

Gbex says: Oh yeah, you are absolutely right there Ellen, and mind you, Hallmark Cards and American Greetings are the largest producers of greeting cards in the world.

Recycled Paper Greetings was the first to print their product on recycled paper, a practice much more common today.

In the United Kingdom, it is estimated that one billion pounds are spent on greeting cards every year, with the average person sending 55 cards per year.

In western countries and increasingly in other societies, many people traditionally mail seasonally themed cards to their friends and relatives in December.

Many service businesses also send cards to their customers in this season, usually with a universally acceptable non-religious message such as "happy holidays" or "seasons's greetings".

Lawrence says: Well, Ellen makes sense in what she says Gbex, and yur predicament definitely true but are you aware guys that the Greeting Card Association is an international trade organization representing the interests of greeting card and stationery manufacturers? You must be.

John Beeder, former president of the Greeting Card Association, says greeting cards are effective tools to communicate important feelings to people you care about: "Anyone feels great when they receive an unexpected card in the mail. For me, there’s nothing like a greeting card to send a special message. I’m proud to be a part of an industry that not only keeps people connected, but uses both imagery and the power of words to help us express our emotions.”

what kind of girfriend are you?

Gbex says: Here's a look at the top eight choices; decide which type you are, which type you'd rather be, and which type your best guy friend's girlfriend is.

Loving and Loyal
You show your affection in natural way, by listening and supporting your boyfriend. You never put to much pressure on him and you expect the same in return.

Too Good To Be True

You're basically in the honeymoon stage of the relationship. However, after a few months, he may realize, you were too good to be true.

More Of A Mother
You see yourself as the woman in the relationship, so naturally your duties become picking out your man's clothes and cleaning up his messy trail.

Crew Clinger: Stage 5
You don't connect on a friendship level with girls, and you'd rather spend all your time with your guy, and his guys too.

Facebook Freak
You screen his friend requests heavily, making sure no female friends make the accepted list. You comb through his friend list and make sure he deletes anyone whom you deem a threat.

Manipulating Man Eater
You never back down, and you always get your way. You act adorable, sweet, and innocent but can turn into a maneater at a moment's notice; basically, Kristin Cavallari from the Hills.

One Of Those Broads
You cater to his needs and sometimes forget about your own.

Risking It All
You are emotionally unattached, which is somewhat healthy and somewhat harsh.
