Hypertrichosis

Alberto says: Hypertrichosis (also called Ambras syndrome) is an abnormal amount of hair growth over the body. Extensive cases of hypertrichosis have informally been called werewolf syndrome, because the appearance is similar to the werewolf.

The two distinct types of hypertrichosis are generalized hypertrichosis, which occurs over the entire body, and localized hypertrichosis, which is restricted to a certain area.

Hypertrichosis can be either congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life.

The excess growth of hair occurs in areas of the skin with the exception of androgen-dependent hair of the pubic area, face, and axillary regions.

Several circus sideshow performers in the 19th and early 20th centuries  had hypertrichosis.

Many of them worked as freaks and were promoted as having distinct human and animal traits.

learning disabilities and mental disorders

Ellen Says: You know Lawrence, you are definitely right about what you said in your post regarding children suffering from epilepsy. This disorder makes me come to mind the sad plight of those kids who are suffering from mental disorders, learning disabilities and mental retardation which definitely are not usually classified as primarily neurological.

However, the distinction can be a matter of some debate, either in regards to specific facts about the cause of a condition or in regards to the general understanding of brain and mind.

Furthermore, the definition of disorder can be contested in regard to what is considered abnormal, dysfunctional, harmful or unnatural in neurological, evolutionary, psychometric or social terms, if you know what I mean.

While certain types of mental condition are not usually classified primarily as neurological disorders, and certain types of brain disorders are not usually classified primarily as mental conditions, there are now an array of basic sciences that deal with the continuum between the neural and the mental, including subspecialities of psychology and neuroscience such as neuropsychology, cognitive neuropsychology or cognitive (thought) neuroscience, affective (emotion) neuroscience, behavior neuroscience (also known as biopsychology), social neuroscience, and neurophenomenology (subjective experience and consciousness).

nasal hair

Ellen Says: Nasal hair or nose hair is the hair in the nose. Its main function is to keep foreign or unwanted particles from entering the lungs to. Adult humans have hairs in the anterior nasal passage.
Nasal hair has important implications for the health of the human body because a lack of nasal hair could invite the transport of potentially harmful particles into the respiratory system.

Nasal hair should not be confused with cilia of the nasal cavity, which are the microscopic cellular strands that, unlike macroscopic nasal hair, draws mucus up toward the oropharynx via their coordinated, back-and-forth beating.

A number of devices have been sold to trim the nose hair, including miniature rotary clippers, and attachments for electric shavers. However, given the putative function of nasal hairs, many physicians recommend trimming them lightly, if at all.

The removal of nasal hair by plucking can be painful, followed by a reaction of tearing eyes and sometimes bleeding.
These symptoms can be lessened if the plucking occurs in a situation where more warm moisture is present in the nasal passage (e.g. after a shower or steam facial); However, the pain associated with this method of nose hair removal can be a prohibitive factor to its removal for cosmetic purposes.
Removal by hand can be less painful, though acquiring a firm grip on a single hair may prove prohibitively difficult for some.
A pair of tweezers can be used which facilitates removal and an antiseptic cream applied after treatment on the end of a cotton-bud to reduce the risk of infection and soreness.

dandruff is a problem

Gbex says: "Dandruff" is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff is sometimes caused by frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and common. Some people, however, either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, experience an unusually large amount of flaking, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation. Most cases of dandruff can be easily treated with specialized shampoos.

Excessive flaking can also be a symptom of seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection or excoriation associated with infestation of head lice.

Those affected by dandruff find that it can cause social or self-esteem problems. Treatment may be important for both physiological and psychological reasons.

As the epidermal layer continually replaces itself, cells are pushed outward where they eventually die and flake off. In most people, these flakes of skin are too small to be visible. However, certain conditions cause cell turnover to be unusually rapid, especially in the scalp.

For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2–7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff. The result is that dead skin cells are shed in large, oily clumps, which appear as white or grayish patches on the scalp, skin and clothes.

Dandruff has been shown to be the result of three required factors:

1.Skin oil commonly referred to as sebum or sebaceous secretions
2.The metabolic by-products of skin micro-organisms
3.Individual susceptibility

Shampoos use a combination of ingredients to control dandruff. Salicylic acid (used in Sebulex) removes dead skin cells from the scalp and decreases the rate at which these cells are created. Zinc pyrithione kills pityrospora. Selenium sulfide or Ketoconazole achieves the results of both salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione.

Simply increasing usage with normal shampooing will remove flakes. However, elimination of the fungus results in dramatic improvement. Regular shampooing with an anti-fungal product can reduce recurrence.

Soothing preparations may contain Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and coal tar based products.

The most common antifungal agents used are Zinc pyrithione Selenium sulfide and Ketoconazole.

Other products used include Tea tree oil and Piroctone olamine (Octopirox).

Natural beauty

Ellen says:It’s important to start with a clean, well-hydrated face. Use a gentle cleanser, and then moisturize—and don’t forget the sunscreen! After you finish that, you're ready for make-up!

Sometimes, It’s ok to be a softy.Lightly, using your finger, dab a little concealer under your eyes, on blemishes, on sunspots—whatever you really want to cover up. Remember, use only a little, you don’t want it to look like a mask.

And then, just a little bit.Dust powder lightly on your skin or use a liquid foundation. Regardless of what you do, make sure it’s a really sheer layer. Also, using a brush to apply powder or foundation will make it look more natural.

Finally. Pink your cheeks. With blush, always pick a natural shade that looks like you pinched your cheeks, something that’s closest to your natural blush. Either a cream and powder blush will do, just remember to, once again, go light on the amount you use.

Rosemary Mint Conditioner

Ellen says: As many people know, hair is the crowning glory of a person and sad to say that some of us don't give their hair proper care and attention. We must take a good care of our hair since it is a said to be the mirror of out inner health and a reflection of our personality.

I have done damage to my hair also from repeated coloring and such. I have tried like everything on the market. Luckily I have found rosemary mint conditioner from Aveda, the best tamer for my hair. It makes it smooth without giving that look like you have added something to your hair (like fructis or those other thick balms), and you can use it wet or dry. It doesn't build up like other stuff does.

It's awesome. I swear by it, obviously, and have even turned my best friend and sister in law onto after they tried it once! They both use it religiously like me now. It's not exactly cheap, but the bottle will last for quite a while, so its well worth the price .

Sleeping Position may cause wrinkles

Ellen says: Who in the world wants to look older than one's chronological age? Wrinkles may be the road map of life, but no one wants to read an atlas when they look in the mirror.

Whether you're 35 and just beginning to see the first signs of aging, or 55 with skin that isn't exactly keeping your birthday a secret, seeking ways to reduce wrinkles is probably on your agenda. Sad to say, many of us are losing the wrinkles battle, watching helplessly as the glow of youth goes on the dimmer switch.

Many women as well as men believe that aging skin is inevitable, but with the right information , we really can look as young as we feel,

Well!! the way we sleep may actually cause wrinkles. No matter how soft our pillow, it puts pressure on our face each night. Over years, this can etch lines into our chin, cheeks, or forehead. Our personal pattern of sleep lines depends on how we tend to rest our face on the pillow. So to avoid such we need to sleep on our back. People who don't sleep with their face on a pillow do not tend to develop sleep lines.

Lip gloss for protection

Ellen says: It’s easy to pay attention to the main areas of our face when it comes to anti-aging, but what about the forgotten areas like the upper lip? This part of the face ages just like the rest of the skin and because of its delicate location, we often take for granted that this area is fine without special treatment. That couldn’t be further from the truth. If we thought crow’s feet around our eyes are a nightmare to get rid of, imagine the damage deep wrinkles can do to our complexion once they’ve attacked our upper lip!

Recently, I bought a lip gloss for me and my children. Since they cannot use the bright gloss for their lips I have chosen the color wheel lip gloss for all of us. So that we can choose from variety of colors and flavors as well. I can also easily encourage them to use the gloss, since the product looks inviting.

acne cream

My friend and neighbor, Jairem thought of buying a kind of acne cream for his teenage son, Reuben. But with a wide array of various acne products available in the market today, it is somewhat difficult for her to decide which product is best for Reuben. I've gone through such dilemma during the early teenage years of Rj, my favorite nephew, so, it was easy for me to give her my advise.

I told her that acne cream is great for normal to oily skin as it provides a moderate amount of moisture and is capable of covering a medium sized area. Acne cream is also great for general acne treatment, but may not be as effective as using an acne spot treatment gel, or an exfoliating scrub.

It can be overwhelming to decide which one is best for Reuben since there are lots of products offered in the market. So, I strongly advised her to visit AcneCured Revealed as it may help her out with her son's problem. The site will help her come up with the right product that is best suited for Reuben.
