What's a vegetarian?

Ellen says: Not too many years ago, vegetarians were thought to be a little weird. Today a significant number of people are taking up some form of the practice. Vegetarians are classified in three categories. (1) total vegetarians, who avoid all animal products, (2) lacto-ovo vegetarians, who eat dairy products and eggs but no flesh foods, and (3) semi-vegetarians, who avoid only red meat, but eat poultry and fish.

There are some advantages to eating a diet high in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains like: lower risk of certain cancers and heart disease. One of the pitfalls of a vegetarian diet, however, is failing to get all the essential nutrients. For example, the iron that comes from vegetables is not readily absorbed by the body. And vitamin B12 is only available from animal products, and so supplements should be taken. Anyone considering a vegetarian diet should seek out a registered dietitian to make sure such a diet is well-balanced.

The prophet Daniel went on a vegetarian during a three-week fast. God may vall you to fast for a period of time. A fast, however doesn't have to mean going without food altogether.

can't be pure vegan...though i love veggies.

a balanced diet still is the key=) vegans mostly have protein deficiencies due to incompleteness of the protein in veggies. one has to consult a dietitian...haha, that's me=)

good day!
