Best Calcium Source

Gbex says: Calcium is bone building material. For children it grows strong bones. For older people, it keeps them strong.

Without an adequate supply of calcium an elderly person's bones become brittle. The condition is known as osteoporosis. That's why doctors often advice the elderly to take calcium supplements.

The calcium in milk, however, is readily absorbed and is the preferred source of calcium from the elderly. Skim milk, by the way, is higher in calcium than higher-fat milk.

If calcium supplements are taken, most doctors recommend that more soluble form calcium citrate, as opposed to the less soluble calcium carbonate. Be sure to take them wit a meal to boost absorption.
