Another health benefit of red wine is that it lowers the total overall cholesterol number and it raises the number of the HDL which is the good cholesterol. Older people who drink red wine on a regular basis are less likely to have mental illness or some type of disability. Red wine is also beneficial in helping women maintain their estrogen level and helps them absorb calcium and can help stave off osteoporosis.

Please keep in mind that the health benefits of red wine can only work if they are taken in moderation. Don't think the more you drink the faster the effects will take place. Red wine includes flavonoids, which are antioxidants, which in the long run can help prevent strokes and heart diseases. If you drink one glass of wine a night you reap the benefits of the red wine.
