chronicles...

@8:40AM of Thursday, 10th of April 2008, Dom says, here's an excerpt from the Abbot's Chronicles.
Who says life inside a monastery is as dry as dried prunes and as boring as a noon-day sun in Sahara desert? Well, I guess and I should say, whoever says that, you got it all wrong.... just try to read all through the following to prove to you that monastic life is not what you think it is...

Sunday, March 30, 2008
Subprior Christian presides at the Conventual Mass this morning. The cooks today are Brother Rodrigo and Brother Paul. The reader for the week is Brother Lawrence.

Prior Francisco and 10 of the brothers go hiking today in the mountains.

After the hike, Prior Francisco asks—only for the sake of the others—if we can have anticipated Vigils tonight and a sleep in tomorrow morning. That wish is granted!

Monday. March 31, 2008
Today we keep the transferred Solemnity of the Annunciation.

Brother Michael goes to the doctor in Embudo. He drives Brother Cécilien to Dr. Cristelle in Española. They return in time for recreation.

Roger has the Xterra in town and hopes to get it fixed today, which he does.

Brother Marcus drives Brother Lawrence to his counseling appointment.

Prior Francisco, Brother Romualdo and the novices all go to the profession of Brother Joseph at Pecos Abbey today. It is also the first day on which Fr. Stephen Coffey exercises his new role as the Administrator of Pecos.

Abbot Philip drives George to Saint Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, where George has both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. Nothing terrible is discovered. He has a hiatal hernia and two polyps are removed from his colon and sent for biopsy. He will have a CAT scan on Friday.

Wednesday, April 2, 2008
Brother Lawrence has a dental appointment today.

Brother André and Brother Francis go for the regular Wednesday Shopping.

Fr. Stephen Frost, who is the Godson of Subprior Christian, arrives today to spend a couple of days at the Monastery.

Thursday, April 3, 2008
Brother Marcus drives Brother Lawrence to Albuquerque today for an immigration appointment to check on the status of his greencard application.

Abbot Philip has an appointment to have a tooth extracted in El Rito. George goes with him for a medical appointment in El Rito. Afterward they go to Española and do bank business. Then to Santa Fe where Abbot Philip sets up a bank account at Bank of America for Thien Tam so that Brother Andrew and Brother Jean Vianney can deposit money into that account while they travel.

It is a movie night tonight and a Desert Day tomorrow.

Friday, April 4, 2008
It is the Desert Day for this month.

Abbot Philip drives George to the hospital for a CT scan. This is just a further testing to see if George has cancer. Please keep him in your prayers.

Rosy pays off most of the hermitage workers today and receives their legal waivers.

Saturday, April 5, 2008
It is a quiet day in the monastery. There are no trips out by monks today.

One of the workers, Luis, comes to work on the small verandah built onto George's cell.
